Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother and sister, Alyne Marie (Borchers) Johnson entered her final rest on October 4, 2011 at the age of 73. She was born November 19, 1937 in Schulenburg, Texas the fourth of five daughters of the late Fritz and Rubine Elizabeth (McCormick) Borchers. David and Alyne married in Bandera on June 28, 1958. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, David E. Johnson; son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Dalyn Johnson and Penni; daughter and son-in-law, Denise and Kevin Ulmer; three grandchildren, Matthew Johnson, Kyle Ulmer, Jessica Ulmer; three step-grandchildren, Skyler, Jordan and Blaine Click; three step great-great grandchildren, Sidnee, Landrie and Averi Click. Surviving sisters are; Elizabeth and Allen Albrecht, Genelle Yoder, Shirley and Dick Kennedy, Louise and John Drymalla and many nieces and nephews. After graduating from Schulenburg High School in 1956, she graduated from Southwest Texas State and moved to San Antonio. She taught at Ivanhoe Elementary SAISD then resigned to raise her children. During this time, she supported school activities, was a Brownie leader, Girl Scout leader and Den Mother for her son who made Eagle Scout. Her daughter was a Girl Scout leader and her son Kyle, is working toward his Eagle. Later she returned to teaching kindergarten at DeZavala Elementary SAISD. She and David spent many vacations researching family in court houses across the Eastern States. The family enjoyed tent camping all over the Western States. Their travels covered all 50 states, Mexico, Canada, and Europe. They made a trip to New Zealand and Australia in 2009 which was a gift for their 50th anniversary in 2008. The Borchers family met for Thanksgiving reunions for many years. David and Alyne took over the Johnson family reunion after his sister, Laura, gave it up. The large family meets annually at the Flatonia American Legion Hall. His family became her family and she loved visiting, dominoes, dancing and camping with his family, nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. Crafts, quilting, and crochet were activities she enjoyed. She made several quilts, many crocheted baby quilts and three bedspreads. The last in 2010 for granddaughter Jessica. After 45 1/2 years David retired from Southern Pacific and Union Pacific Railroad, they joined friends at the R.R. retirees' monthly meetings. In later years, they bought a ranch just north of Flatonia where many hours were spent tending cattle and fishing. Viewing will be held at Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Flatonia at 5:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. October 5, 2011. Services are at Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Flatonia at 11:00 A.M.
