Betty Harbich

June 12, 1944 — February 21, 2021

Betty Lou (Brandt) Harbich went home to be with her mother, dad and sister on Sunday, February 21, 2021 at the age of 76 years old. Betty is now resting peacefully after many years of struggling with the cruelty of Parkinson's disease. She was born on June 12, 1944 in Smithville, Texas to Hugo Brandt and Loretta (Barton) Brandt. She lived in Holman, Texas and attended school at LaGrange. She graduated from LaGrange High School. She met the love of her life in 1962 while working at Buzman's café in Columbus, Texas. After dating for several years, she married Raymond William Harbich from Cistern, Texas on June 8, 1968 at the Sts. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church in Cistern. Together they had two sons and one daughter. They lived in Cistern all their lives. They bought land and built a home. Farming and ranching was a big part of their lives. Betty loved being involved with family and community events. She was a member of the Sts. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church choir, member of KJZT, Cistern Red Hat Society, the Alter Society, the LaGrange Community Citizen Patrol Group. Betty loved taking trips and traveling to places around the world. She visited her ancestry homeland in the Czech Republic, Poland, and Yugoslavia. She loved sightseeing adventures by visiting Branson, Missouri; Las Vegas, Nevada; Coushatta, Louisiana. She was a big NASCAR race fan. She attended several races in Talladega, Alabama, and Texas Motor Speedway. Joys in her life included talking, laughing, and spending time with her family. She loved family gatherings which allowed her to do her best work (cook an awesome meal). She also enjoyed spending time with her four-legged friends. Her best joy came into her life on July 2007. This joy was her granddaughter, Emma Klozik. She and Emma love each other to the ends of the Earth. Betty is survived by her husband Raymond; her sons: Kenneth, Michael; daughter Denise Klozik (Brian); granddaughter Emma. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister Aline Charbula; brother-in-law (Erwin Charbula). A visitation for Betty was held on Thursday, February 25 from 3p to 7pm at Smith Funeral Home in Flatonia. A rosary was recited on Friday, Feb. 26 at 9:30 a.m. at Sts. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church in Cistern with a funeral Mass following at 10 a.m., officiated by Father Eddie Winkler. Burial occurred on Friday, Feb. 26 at Sts. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church cemetery in Cistern. Pallbearers were Luke Cardon, Randy Hunsucker, Steven Kelly, Bruce Klozik, Fred Moreno, Ted Urban. Honorary pallbearers were Troy Kainer and Ronnie Harbick. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.smithfuneralhomeflatonia.come for the Harbich family. We will miss you dearly.
