David J. Kalich passed away on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, at the age of 84. He was born to Henry and Lillie (Prasek) Kalich on October 4, 1940. For 42 years, David worked in the scholastic field as a high school mathematics teacher and principal. He spent fifteen of those years as the principal of Hallettsville High School, a job in which he took incredible pride. After his retirement, David enjoyed spending his time on the road driving his red truck with one (or two) of his dogs beside him. In 2023, David relocated to California to be closer to his daughter, Lisa, but he remained a Texas cowboy from his hat to his boots. David never met a stranger, and he will be remembered for his friendly smile, wry sense of humor, and kind heart.
David was preceded in death by his parents Henry and Lillie Kalich; his brother, Henry Kalich, Jr.; and his wife, Vivian (Barborak) Kalich. Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Lisa Kalich (Gary); sister-in-law, Lillie Kalich; brothers-in-law, Dennis (Nita), James (Shirley), and Arthur (Helen) Barborak; and his nephews and numerous extended family, friends, and caregivers.
Services will be held on Monday, January 27, 2025 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Moulton, Texas. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. and the Memorial Service will begin at 10 a.m. with burial to follow at St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery.
