Dirk Filla

Dirk Curtis Filla was born September 3, 1955 to Margaret and Josef Robert Filla in San Antonio Texas. He married Janet Maeker June 11, 1971 in Gonzales Texas. They made their home in La Grange Texas in 1971. Dirk and Janet married at the early age of 16, their love affair withstood the test of time, celebrating their 44th Wedding Anniversary this year. Dirk at the age of 16 joined the family business with his father and brothers which grew into a successful business of his own that supported his family for several decades. Known by many as Curtis, he was a hard- working, strong willed, private and prideful man. For those who knew him well, he was a caring, loving, sensitive, and very giving human being. What he gave the most was of his heart and unique sense of humor. The simple things in life is where he found his joy. He loved fishing, spending time with his girls and loved ones, telling his stories and jokes or taking a simple drive to revisit old favorite spots or finding new ones. He was a student of life whose gifts were not just his own, he was always willing to give them to those around him. In August, 2012, he and Janet moved to Lake Jackson Texas where they fully enjoyed life and many new adventures for the last 3 years. Dirk was called home Thursday September 10, 2015 at Memorial Herman Hospital in Houston Texas at the age of 60 years and 7 days. He was proceeded in death by his parents, 1 brother, Victor Ivy, 1 grandson Zachary Thomas and several aunts, uncles and cousins. He is survived by his wife Janet Katie Filla, daughter Wendy Marie Filla Brown and son-in-law Johnny Brown, daughter, Christina Jo Filla, mother-in-law/mom, Myrtle Maeker, 3 sisters Gail Burleson and husband Steve, Judy Murphy and Dale Holden, 4 brothers, Robert Filla and wife Debra, Darrell Filla, Wayne Ivy, Larry Ivy and wife Linda, 2 brother-in-laws, Leslie and Randy Maeker, numerous nieces and nephews. Close and very special nephews, Joey, Jonathan and Christopher Filla, Michael Shuman, Cody Davis, and niece Kimberly Maeker White.
