Dorothy Votaw

June 11, 1928 — July 20, 2020

Dorothy Jean (White) Votaw was born in Delhi, Texas on the 11th of June, 1928 to Milburn and Eva Rawlinson White. She passed away peacefully on July 20, 2020 at Schulenburg Regency Nursing Home. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, one brother David White, one sister Lennie M. McMullen Baker, one son Ronald Votaw and her husband of 61 years 8 months, Vernon Votaw. Dorothy and Vernon were united in marriage on August 30, 1952. During their early years, Vernon worked for the railroad and they traveled in a travel trailer in west Texas while he worked. Later they owned several automotive businesses called Mr. Transmission in San Antonio and Houston and finally in the 1980s they owned the 653 Waelder Restaurant and Texaco Station at the I-10 exit 653 in Waelder. After they sold the 653 business, Dorothy worked at Joel's BBQ and became the bookkeeper there for many years until her retirement. Dorothy was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, sister and friend and was there when needed anytime or any day. She was known as Grandma Dot or Aunt Dot to many who weren't even related to her. She loved her yard and flowers and no matter where she lived, her yard was landscaped and immaculate, as well as her home. Dorothy was the living example of a Christian Lady and will be missed by so many whose lives she touched. She lived a long and happy life and was extremely active until a stroke placed her in the nursing home two years ago. She remained a kind hearted, loving lady even during this difficult time. Dorothy is survived by her daughter LaDonna and husband Grant Mulholland of Flatonia; daughter in-law Linda Votaw of Fort Worth; granddaughter Adriane and husband Eddie Mayda of Sacramento, California; grandson Scott Votaw of Seattle, Washington; granddaughter Ashton and husband Jason Laake of Flatonia; and grandson Aiden Mulholland of Flatonia; six great grandchildren; Jack, Cate, Sam, Sasha, Dima and Cameron; one brother and sister-in-law Adrian and Ottie White of Delhi, Texas; multiple nieces, nephews and many special friends. Rest in Peace sweet lady until we meet again! A visitation for Dorothy will be held Friday, July 24, 2020 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Smith Funeral Home, Flatonia, Texas.
