Edith Kalina

Edith E. Kalina, 101, of Schulenburg, passed away peacefully on Saturday November 2, 2019 at the Schulenburg Regency Nursing Center. Edith was born in Moravia, Texas, on August 16, 1918, the daughter of the late Frank J. and Frances (Kubos) Olsovsky. Edith married Vaclav (Jim) Kalina on December 27, 1944, in Moravia, Texas. Edith was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother. She lived a simple life and was proud of it. She loved to garden, cook, read books, and do crossword puzzles. She loved her family first and foremost. Edith never would sit down at the dinner table until she was certain everyone else was taken care of first. Edith is survived by her children: Annette Abbett (Harvey), Ken Kalina (Dawn), Doreen Stockwell, Ralph Kalina (Cindy), Roland Kalina (Theresa) and Monica Lewis (Don), 14 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren as well as her brothers Albert Olsovsky (Dorothy) and Willie Olsovsky (Mary Louise). In addition to her parents, Edith was preceded in death by her husband Jim, two brothers and one sister. A Celebration of Life Mass will be held on Saturday, November 23, 2019 at the Assumption of The Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Praha, Texas. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Assumption of The Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church of Praha, Hospice of South Texas, St. Rose School of Schulenburg, or a charity of one's choice.
