Helen Kubicek

Helen R. Kubicek passed away on Wednesday, March 23, 2011. She was born on November 17, 1923 to Isidor and Anna (Dlouhy) Kubicek in Lavaca County. She attended St. Joseph Parochial School and graduated from Moulton High School in 1941 and in 1944 graduated from St. Joseph's School of Nursing in Houston with a RN degree. She then entered the Navy Nurse Corps and served until 1946. During the Korean War (1951) she was recalled and served through 1971. Most of her service was off the West Coast on a" troop" ship taking troops to the Pacific Theatre (Islands) and bringing back the wounded. After her retirement she worked at hospitals in Hallettsville and Shiner until 1981. She is survived by her sister, Elizabeth (Alphonse) Koranek of Moulton. Pallbearers: Stanley, James, Michael and Adrian Kubicek, David and Thomas Koranek. Visitation started at 2:00 pm on Thursday, March 24, 2011 with Rosary at 7:00 pm at Smith Funeral Home Chapel. Services will be held at 10:00 am on March 25, 2011 from the St. Joseph Catholic Church with Rev. Gabriel Maison officiating. Burial and Military Honors will follow in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Memorial may be made to donor's choice.
