Janet Filla

July 28, 1955 — February 4, 2016

Janet Katie Filla was born July 28, 1955 to Myrtle and Leslie Maeker in Gonzales Texas. She married Dirk Filla on June 11, 1971 in Gonzales Texas. They made their home in LaGrange Texas in 1971. Janet and Dirk married at the early age of 15, their love affair withstood the test of time and they would have celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary this year. In the beginning of Janet and Dirks love affair they started a family at the young age of 17. Despite her youth Janet would grow into an extraordinarily loving, caring, strong and devoted wife and mother. She also was the oldest of four siblings. She was the strength, the protector, the voice of reason, the confidant, and the rock of the family. She found her pleasure and happiness in the simple things such as spending quality time with her loved ones, taking the time and care to create a warm and loving home, countless hours of fishing with her husband, and the great joy she got from the pampering and giving of her whole heart to her beloved pooches. She was truly a giving and selfless person. Janet and Dirks love affair truly withstood the test of time and grew stronger year after year. She stood by her husband's side while supporting the building of a successful family business and the raising of two wonderful daughters. In her later years she and Dirk retired and settled down in Lake Jackson Texas where they joined their daughter Wendy and their Son-In-Law Johnny. She found enormous joy in the many new adventures that her and Dirk embarked in their new home and new city. She managed the family owned Candy Bouquet where she met numerous new friends and built loving and strong relationships with those around her. Her genuine inner beauty shined brightly and gave joy and comfort to those fortunate enough to know her. Janet was called home Thursday, February 4, 2016 at Memorial Herman Hospital in Houston Texas at the age of 60 years. She was preceded in death by her father Leslie Maeker, her husband Dirk Filla, and her grandson Zachary Thomas. She is survived by her mother Myrtle Maeker, her daughter Wendy Filla Brown and Son-In-Law Johnny Brown, daughter Christina Filla, her beloved pet Panacea, her sister Debra Filla and husband Robert Filla, her brothers Leslie and Randy Maeker, her Sister-In-Law Gail Burleson and husband Steve Burleson and Brother-In-Law Darrell Filla, her nephews Mike Shuman, Joey Filla and wife Kim Filla, Jonathan and Christopher Filla and Cody Davis, and her one niece Kimberly White and husband Harry White.
