Jerry Faltisek

July 25, 1928 — November 1, 2017

Jerry Jacob Faltisek was born on July 25, 1928 in Moulton, Texas to Frank & Mary (Brosch) Faltisek. He passed away peacefully on November 1, 2017 at Oak Manor Nursing Center in Flatonia, Texas. Jerry attended a small country school, later Moulton ISD and then the family moved to Flatonia where he graduated from Flatonia High School in 1947. On November 13, 1950 he married Wilma Rietz in Cistern, Texas at Sts. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church. For the next 13 years they became Godparents to many of their friends' children and they considered their Nieces and Nephews as their own. In 1963 Jerry and Wilma were blessed to adopt a Daughter, Jyl Marie, and later in 1965, a Son, Jerry Jay. After serving in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, and being Honorably Discharged in 1954, Jerry went to work for a construction crew with Frank Zouzalik and helped pave the stretch of Hwy. 77 from Hallettsville to The Crossroads at Hwy. 111 outside of Yoakum. Henry Novak offered him a job at Western Auto in Flatonia. In addition to this job, he was hired by Carl Smith to work at Smith Funeral Home, which also served as the local Ambulance Service. Mr. Smith later started Smith Farms as an egg farm/producer where Jerry worked for 50 years. A few years after retirement, Jerry went to work part-time at the Flatonia Golf Course in the clubhouse and has spent the last 6 years at his ranch near Cistern, Texas. He was a resident at Oak Manor Nursing Center for the last 2 months where he received wonderful care under their staff and made many friends. Jerry wore an Astros cap to support his beloved Team during the World Series. I am sure he and Wilma had front row seats the night the Astros won the World Series title. Jerry was a member of Sts. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church, the KJT, the Flatonia Knights of Columbus and the Flatonia American Legion. He served as American Legion Commander in 1979, 1980, and 1981. Jerry was preceded in death by his wife, parents, father-in-law and mother-in-law, William & Mary (Otahal) Rietz, brother, Teddo Faltisek, and sisters, Lillie Greive, Mayme Barta, Viola Bonorden and Evelyn Antrich. He is survived by his daughter, Jyl Stavinoha, and son-in-law, Dean Stavinoha; son, Jerry Jay Faltisek; granddaughter, Wendi Acosta, and husband, Israel Acosta; granddaughter, Shelly Stavinoha; 8 great-grandchildren, Alexis Acosta, Xavier Acosta, Israel Jacob Acosta, Izak Marruffo, Iliana Acosta, Dyanni Castro, Analise Acosta and Jackson Castro; also numerous very special nieces, nephews and extended family members. Memorials may be made to Sts. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church in Cistern, the Flatonia KCs, the Flatonia American Legion, or to the charity of one's choice. Visitation will start at 4:00 pm Friday, November 3, 2017 at Smith Funeral Home-Flatonia.
