Jimmy Joe Holub

Jimmy Joe Holub, 94, of Moulton, passed away on January 8, 2025. He was born on January 16, 1930, in Moulton to Joe and Elexia Berckenhoff Holub. He was the third of six children. He married Mary Nell Migl of Shiner on August 9, 1955. They had two daughters and resided in Moulton. 

 After the passing of Mary Nell in 1996, he married Gladys Vinklarek Farek in September of 2001.

 Jimmy attended Sam and Will Moore Institute in Moulton and was a star basketball player. He was then drafted in 1948 into the U.S. Army. After returning home he and his brother took over the family dairy business and Holub Brothers was formed. He loved going to cattle auctions, raising and selling registered Simmental cattle, playing dominos, and loved winning on his favorite slot machine at the casinos. He was never a stranger to anyone and his smile and laugh would always light up the room. 

 Jimmy was very active in his community. He served 12 years on the Moulton school board, a member of St. Joesph Catholic church, American Legion, VFW, Knights of Columbus, and U.S. Cattleman’s Association.

 Survivors include his wife of 23 years, Gladys Holub; daughter Jeanene (Robin) Demel of Austin and Amy (David) Machicek of Shiner; grandchildren; Whitney (Rich) Dutton, Chelsea (Andrew) Young, Ashton Machicek, Connor Machicek (fiancé Allison Corley); and great-grandchildren Brooke Dutton, Nolan Young and Presley Young. Also survived by brothers, George (Georgie) Holub, Archie (Jeanette) Holub, brother-in-law Harlan Knezek and sister-in-law Ethelyn Holub.

 Additionally, he is survived by step-children, Wendy (Kenneth) Syrinek, Gale (Anthony) Branecky, Melissa (Mark) Varley, Michelle (Curt) Sexton, and Jennifer Farek; 12 step-grandchildren and 7 step-great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Nell Holub; his parents; his brothers Johnnie Holub and sister-in-law Ellen, Donald Holub, and his sister Milada Knezek; step-daughter Jacqueline Wolfson,

 Pallbearers are: Glenn Holub, George Holub Jr, Greg Holub, Gary Holub, Phillip Geissen, Wayne Holub, Vincent Hegwood, Alan Migl and Ronald Holub 

 Honorary pallbearers are Jimmy’s loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Visitation for Jimmy will be held at Smith Funeral home in Moulton, Sunday, January 12 from 4-6 p.m. followed by a rosary.

 Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, January 13 at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Moulton. Interment will follow in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
