Joseph C. Nieto

Joseph C. Nieto, aged 86, passed away on Sunday, December 22, 2024. Joe was born on August 15, 1938, in Moulton, Texas, to Bonifacio and Josefa (Galvan) Nieto. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. He was very proud of being elected Constable of Lavaca County Precinct 2 in 1972, serving until he retired in 2010, making him one of the longest continuous elected officials in the State of Texas. Even after retirement, he enjoyed making his rounds around town and visiting with the people of Moulton. He was most proud of his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Joe is survived by his wife Lois Nieto, his children Joe Nieto (Michelle), Adam Nieto (Kelly), Rachel Dolezal, Richard Nieto, Edward Nieto (Bernadette), his son-in-law Jeff Brigman, thirteen grandchildren, five great-grandchildren with one on the way, his brother Felipe Nieto, and his brother-in-law Steve Martinez, along with numerous nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. Joe was preceded in death by his father Bonifacio Nieto and mother Josefa Nieto, his daughter Delia Nieto Brigman, sisters Ester Nieto, Erlinda Perez, Betty Martinez, Mary Nieto, and Flora Nieto and brothers Vive, Fred, and Marcelino Nieto and grandsons Zachary and Christopher Brigman. 

Pallbearers are Jordan Dolezal, Jaydon Nieto, Caleb Nieto, Carson Nieto, Trent Nieto, and Landry Nieto. Honorary pallbearers are all past and present law enforcement. 

Visitation for Joe will be held at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Moulton, TX, on Thursday, December 26, from 4 pm – 6 pm followed by a rosary. A funeral mass will be held on Friday, December 27, at 10 AM, officiated by Father Gabriel Maison. Burial will be in the St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery in Moulton, TX.
