John Edward Koch

November 7, 1945 — September 17, 2024

Moulton, TX

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of John Edward Koch, affectionately known as "Big John," who departed this life in Victoria, Texas, on September 17, 2024, at the age of seventy-eight. Born on November 7, 1945, in Kenedy, Texas, John lived a life steeped in love, laughter, and unwavering commitment to his family and community.

A graduate of Runge High School in 1965, John turned his passion for mechanics into a fulfilling career as a diesel mechanic. He began his journey at Brown & Crews Equipment International before lending his expertise to Gulf Coast Truck & Tractor, Better Beverages, Hoffer's Trucking, and Lavaca County Precinct 1. His dedication to his work and his ability to mentor countless individuals were testaments to his character, as he approached life with a positive outlook that inspired those around him.

In his role as a loving husband, father, brother and uncle, John epitomized selflessness, always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He was especially proud of his garden, nurturing fresh vegetables that he would generously share with family and friends. His joy extended to fishing trips to Indianola, wherein he enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, as well as butchering and preparing meals for various community events, most notably the Men and Mission Spaghetti dinner. A man of great humor and warmth, John often shared his wisdom and insights, encouraging others to foster a relationship with Christ and to find solace within the Church.

John’s devotion to his church was palpable; he served diligently on Zion's Church Council and was a longstanding member and former president of the Lutheran Men in Mission. His contributions to the congregation and the wider community were both numerous and meaningful.

He leaves behind his beloved wife, Kathryn Buehring Koch, and their cherished daughter, Amanda Orsak (James), as well as his adored grandchildren, Dylan Orsak and Lindsay Orsak. John is also survived by his sister, Mary Kresta (Marvin), whose love for him complemented the strong bonds he built throughout his life.

John is now reunited with his dear parents, Thomas Koch and Leona Wiede Buehring, and step-father, Leo Buehring. He also joins his siblings in eternal rest: brother Gerald Koch and sister Patricia Koch Irvine King.

In the hearts of those who knew and loved him, John's spirit will forever endure, a beacon of generosity, faith, and hearty laughter. His legacy is one of unwavering kindness, vibrant humor, and a steadfast commitment to the ideals of service and community.
