Lawrence "Larry" Eugene Murphy Lawrence "Larry" Eugene Murphy, age 67, of Moulton, Texas, passed away on July 14, 2012 in Victoria, Texas. He was born September 3rd, 1944 in West Columbia, Texas to parents Carl Francis Murphy and Alma Lee Tidwell Murphy. Larry spent his childhood growing up in Buna and Houston, TX, where he attended Milby High School. He enlisted in the Army during the Vietnam War and was distinguished by serving in the Honor Guard at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia. After serving in the military, Larry worked as a horseback prison guard for the Texas State Penitentiary in Huntsville, Texas. Larry then began his career in the petrochemical industry, ultimately rising to leadership positions including General Superintendent, Piping Inspector and consultant for large pipeline projects, petrochemical plants and offshore drilling rigs in various locations across the globe. Larry had diverse interests outside of work and was passionate regarding his personal pursuits. In his earlier years, Larry competed as a rodeo athlete in steer wrestling and saddle bronc riding. Larry was an accomplished domestic rabbit breeder and his animals won many awards, including Grand Champion at the Texas State 4-H show. In addition, he was a member of the American Legion and Fraternal Order of Eagles. He served as chaplain for the Eagles and worked for thirteen years as auctioneer for their benefits. Larry lived the motto "People Helping People" and could always be counted on by other members for job opportunities and support. Larry is survived by his wife of 24 years, Sue Ann Murphy; His daughter Denise Trawick and her husband Tim; his son Daniel Murphy and wife Margaret; his son Lance Murphy and his wife Kate; his daughter Teresa Amer and her husband Ali; his daughter Stephanie Shults and her husband Randy; his sisters Lois Ainsworth and Carleen Whitton. Larry has nine grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and sister JoAnne Murphy Thomas. Visitation will be held Monday evening, July 16, 2012. Funeral services will begin at 10:00 am Tuesday, July 17, 2012 at Smith Funeral Home with the Rev. Steve Zornes officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Old Moulton Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Daniel Murphy, Mark Murphy, Timothy Trawick, Chris Pilat, Bret Whitton, and Paul Lowe. Funeral arrangements are with Smith Funeral Home, 404 W.
