Louis Stryk

March 12, 1930 — November 9, 2016

Louis George Stryk "When we recall the past, we usually find that it is the simplest things - not the great occasions - that in retrospect give off the greatest glow of happiness." -Bob Hope Louis George Stryk passed away early Wednesday morning, November 9, 2016, following a brief illness. He was 86. Louis was born to Frank and Albina Barta Stryk, on March 12, 1930, in Flatonia. He joined the United States Army in 1951, and served in the Korean War. He is survived by his sister, Helen Muras of Flatonia, his brother Edwin and wife, Julie, of Victoria, sister-in-law Delores Stryk of San Antonio, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters, Lillie Kalina, Sister M. Bernard Stryk, and Irene Orsak; his brothers, Frank Stryk, Reverend Jerome J. Stryk, and Bernard Stryk; a niece, Connie Marragia, and nephew, Gerald Kalina. Louis was a farmer and rancher, and an avid outdoorsman. He loved his farm and maintained it so that his family and friends could enjoy its beauty. He loved his animals, especially his beloved dog, Hank. His favorite pastimes were woodwork and gardening. Louis could often be found relaxing on his beautiful porches which looked out onto his yard and corn fields, and the amazing country views. Louis loved listening to music-Beethoven, Bach and Pavarotti were some of his favorites. He was a fan of EWTN radio, also. In his earlier years, he enjoyed fishing trips to Rockport with his brothers. He also loved family visits. His nephews and nieces were allowed to help Uncle Louis-feeding cows, picking corn and especially, driving the tractor, were highlights of visits to the farm. In his later years, he couldn't wait for his Sunday afternoon games with his sister, Helen. He was dearly loved and will be sadly missed. Louis was a devout Catholic and devoted member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, in Praha, Texas. He was also a member of the Praha KJT, Flatonia Knights of Columbus, and American Legion Post #94.
