Margaret Sherwood

January 15, 1925 — July 24, 2017

Margaret "Peggy" LeCompte Hunter, age ninety-two, of Flatonia, Texas passed away on Monday, July 24, 2017 after sustaining a fall requiring a hospitalization where she deteriorated rapidly. She went home with hospice care to live out her final days at her daughter's home surrounded by her family who cared for her around the clock and loved her. Margaret was born January 15, 1925 in Baltimore Maryland, second child to Cora E. and Andrew Hunter, Jr. She was preceded in death by both her parents and her older sister Royce. She is survived by her younger sister June D. Saunderson of New York, her eldest daughter Kathryn & her husband Dennis Geesaman of Flatonia, TX, her younger daughter Nancy & her husband Dr. Thomas Splan of Yorktown, VA, her five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Margaret was born & raised in Baltimore, Maryland. Was a graduate of Eastern High School and Peabody School of Music where she studied Opera. She had a beautiful soprano voice which she never used professionally but gifted listeners with her God given talent at the Methodist Churches she attended throughout her life. She lived through the Great Depression which had an enormous impact on her life. She was resourceful and thrifty so she could be generous to others. Margaret raised two daughters as a divorced single parent at a time when divorce was taboo. Margaret worked as a civil servant in the United States Government her entire working career. She retired after 32 years of service. Margaret lived out her last twelve years in Flatonia, TX where residents affectionately referred to her as "Grandma" or "Grandma Sherwood". She could be found every morning helping her daughter by greeting guests at The Olle Hotel in Flatonia. Funeral Services are scheduled for 10:00 am Wednesday, July 26, 2017 at the Flatonia United Methodist Church officiated by Pastor Jeff Muehl with burial following at Goose's Roost Haven in Flatonia.
