Marie Masek

Marie Masek, 90, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 22, 2016 at Highland Estates retirement village in Cedar Park, Texas. Marie was born on October 25, 1925 in Dubina, Texas to Leo and Marcella (Bartosh) Hromadka. She was happily married for 59 years to Anton Jerry "Tony" Masek, who predeceased her in 2005. Marie is survived by her three sons, Gregory Masek and his wife Julie Masek of Cedar Park, Texas, Matthew Masek of Houston, Texas, and James Masek of Van Horn, Texas; two daughters, Bernadette Carr of Fort Hancock, Texas, and Annette Guerra and her husband Terry Guerra of Ovilla, Texas; four grandchildren, Scott Bean and his wife Yolanda, James A. Masek, Kelly Masek-Smith and Michael Guerra; and five great-grandchildren, Gregory Basterrechea, Elizabeth Bean, Katherine Bean, Anthony "Tony" Masek and Allyson Smith. Marie is also survived by her brother-in-law, Vaclav "Jim" Masek and his wife, Joyce, and other sisters-in-law, Ella Hromadka, Bernice Hromadka, Margie Hromadka, Mary Jasek and Pat Masek. She also leaves many nieces and nephews, including 21 from the Hromadka side of her family and 23 from the Masek side. In addition to her husband Tony, Marie was predeceased by her parents, her sisters Marcella Cernoch, Albina Janda, Rosie Smith and Lillie Janacek, her brothers Ben, Jeff, Leo and Eddie Hromadka, and her son-in-law Buddy Carr. Visitation was Sunday evening, April 24, 2016 at Smith Funeral Home Chapel-Flatonia, with a rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass was at 10:00 a.m. Monday, April 25, 2016 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Praha, officiated by Father Gabriel Maison and Father James Fischler. Burial followed in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Praha. Pallbearers were Scott Bean, Terry Guerra, Andrew Janda, James A. Masek, Ronnie Masek and Tim Masek.
