Marie Vinklarek

August 21, 1924 — April 25, 2017

Marie Vinklarek, 92, of Cistern, Texas died peacefully April 25, 2017, in the presence of family. Mom was born August 21, 1924, in Jeddo, Texas to Albert and Antonia (Kusak) Janecka. After graduating from the Jeddo School, she went to live with her uncle and worked in his country store in Cistern. In 1947, she married Ernest Vinklarek at Saints Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church in Cistern. Mom was our dad's partner in life, in the farming and ranching business, and the bookkeeper for their business affairs. She lived a very active life, raising nine children. She was not only a homemaker but also the seamstress for the family, making clothes for her six daughters, three sons and husband. She canned numerous jars of vegetables for her family. She was a great cook and all her children loved her cookie pie. After our father became ill, she nursed and stayed by his side until his death in 1985. Afterwards, she took over managing their ranching business, became an avid quilter and a traveler seeing sights and sounds across the US. She gifted each of her children and grandchildren homemade quilts. She also donated quilts to her church picnics and for local fundraisers. Mom was a life time member of Saints Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church, the Altar Society and the KJZT. She also volunteered at several community organizations, including the Flatonia nursing home, for many years. She is remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend. She is preceded in death by her husband, her grandson Jarrod, and her four younger brothers--Louis, Adolph, Willie and Paul. She is survived by her nine children--Ernie and Karen Vinklarek of Cistern, Linda and Jerry Keys of Austin, Diana Bryant of Austin, Dennis and Loretta Vinklarek of Cistern, Gary and Jennifer Vinklarek of Cistern, Barbara and Don Fowler of Richland Springs, Patsy Vinklarek of Austin, Bonnie Vinklarek of Austin, and Karen and Byron Wren of Lexington. She is also survived by 23 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Raphael's Refuge, P.O. Box 341, Flatonia, Texas 78941. Visitation is scheduled for Friday, April 28, 2017 at 8:00 am at Smith Funeral Home Chapel.
