Mary Turner

Mary Alice Turner, age 65, passed away on Wednesday, January 19, 2022. Born on August 30, 1956 to Helen Gomez and Dan S. Velasquez, Mary was a lifelong resident of Flatonia until recently moving to San Antonio with her husband, David Turner. Married on April 27, 1979, Mary and David were loving partners who raised two daughters. As a wife, a mother, a sister, an aunt, and a great aunt, Mary leaves behind a family whose love for her endures beyond her passing. Mary held a steadfast resiliency for life, no matter its tough times. With a kitchen full of homemade treats, she always made sure both family and friends had a kind hug offered, warm cookie in hand, and big smile when in need. Finding daily joy in her crocheting, baking, and crossword puzzles, you could often catch her playing Words With Friends or making the best lemon bars and peanut butter cookies in all of Central Texas. Rescuing her beloved dog, Bandit, from Hurricane Katrina while also taking in her sassy cat, Max, along the way, Mary always had a moment to listen. Mary shared her heart without hesitation and lived for her family. Mary was preceded in death by parents Helen and Dan Velasquez; siblings Roy Velasquez, Mary Ann Velasquez, and Steven Velasquez; and her son Gregory Bryan Turner. She is survived by her husband David Turner of San Antonio, TX; two daughters: Helena Turner of Abilene, TX and Hillary Turner of San Antonio, TX; brothers: Danny Velasquez (Barbara) and Andrew Velasquez (Susan) all of Flatonia, TX; sister-in-law: Rosie Velasquez of Moulton, TX; sisters: Sylvia Kocian of Flatonia, Mary Jane Wheeler (Rodney) of Abilene, TX, Jo Ann Estrada (Max), Patsy Velasquez, Lisa Todd (Mark) all of Flatonia, TX. A memorial service for Mary Alice Turner will be held Tuesday, January 25, 2022 at 10:00 AM at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Flatonia. Reception with lunch to follow next door.
