Boyd Allen Cecil
Boyd passed away on September 10, 2007 in the Weimar Hospital at the age of 91 after a long and productive life. He was born to Charles Price and Jetta Rasnick Cecil on March 8, 1916 in Ezel, Kentucky. Graduated from Combs High School in 1934 and from Kentucky Wesleyan College in 1938. He was a star basketball player in both high school and college.
He served in WWII with the USAF from in 1943 to 1946. He was assigned to the 8th Air Force,384th B 17 Bomber Group based in Grafton Underwood, England as a Bombardier/Navigator.
Completed 25 bombing missions,including the first two daylight raids on Berlin. During military training in San Antonio, Texas he met and married Doris Ray Denman and they had two sons, Allen White and William Whitten. Later he served in the Korean War and was promoted to the rank of Major.
After leaving the service he was employed by Humble Oil and Refining Company. He had a long and successful career in the oil industry and retired from Exxon in 1978 after more than 30 years of service.
During retirement he actively and enthusiastically pursued his life long love of raising registered Hereford cattle at Boyd Cecil Ranch in Flatonia, Texas. Later in his ranching he was known as a producer of top quality pens of bred Braford heifers at the Sealy, Texas sale.
Boyd was asked to help found the Lions Club in Flatonia, Texas, which he successfully did and it is in existence today. One of his special pleasures was being made a Colonel in the Honorary Order of Kentucky Colonels of the Commonwealth of Kentucky. He was also a generous benefactor of the Kentucky Wesleyan College. As a result the bistro in the new student building was named Boyd Cecil Ranch in his honor.
He is survived by his former wife Doris Ray Denman-Cecil, eldest son Allen, daughter-in-law Valerie and grandchildren Andrew,Veronica and Rebecca. Son William and daughter-in-law Margie. Granddaughters Terri Ingram, Shannon Cecil and Traci Landis and three Great-Grandchildren Neena-Ray and Cody Landis and Noel Ingram. Three sisters Martha Chapman-Fox, Isabelle Charlotte Hawkins and Mary-Jo Reynolds and two brothers Charles Cecil and Bill Cecil. Visitation began Sunday, September 16, 2007 at 12 Noon at Smith Funeral Home Flatonia. Services were Monday, September 17, 2007 at 2:00 PM, Flatonia United Methodist Church.
