Omer Larry Miles, known to all as Larry, passed away peacefully on February 12, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones. Born on September 13, 1948, and raised in Kilgore, Texas, Larry carried the warmth and friendliness of East Texas with him wherever he went.
He dedicated much of his life to service, working as a Harris County Sheriff’s Deputy in Houston until an injury in the line of duty led him to new paths. Houston is also where he met the love of his life, Pat, with whom he built a beautiful life. Together, they shared a home filled with love, laughter, and the smell of Larry’s legendary barbecue for 36 years. More than anything, he loved being a devoted father to his children, Amanda, Matthew, and Lauren. He took pride in always being there for his kids, even if it meant countless hours of driving for events, sports, and celebrations.
Larry never met a stranger—his gift for storytelling, warm presence, and love of socializing made him the heart of any gathering. Whether he was cheering on the Texas A&M Aggies, firing up the grill to cook for friends and family, or simply spending time with his wife and children, he embraced life with passion and joy.
Larry leaves behind a legacy of love, generosity, and countless cherished memories. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia Simper Miles; daughter, Lauren Miles and her wife Karen; daughter, Amanda Miles; son, Matthew Miles; sisters, Joyce Mizell (husband Doyle), Shirley Wayne; brother-in-law, Homer Murray; brother-in-law, Eddie Jackson.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents Omer and Stella Miles; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Alphonse and Margaret Simper; sister, Pat Neel/husband Bob; sister, Carol Jackson; sister, Jean Murray; sister, Joni Davis; brother-in-law, Dennis Wayne; sister-in-law, Janet Darilek and brother-in-law Joseph Simper.
