Ruby Polzin

On July 1, 2021, Ruby Polzin was greeted in heaven by her parents, Otto & Adela Oeltjen, sister Melba Jurek and brother Marvin Oeltjen. Ruby is survived by her husband of 66 years, Larry E. Polzin, and sons Kenneth (Kerry) Polzin and Keith Polzin, all of whom reside in Houston, Texas. Ruby was a loving grandmother to Lindsey Polzin and Christopher (Amanda) Polzin and great-grandmother of Brynn Polzin. Ruby is survived by her sister, Joyce Michalec and brothers-in-law Elton Polzin, Ralph (Theresa) Polzin, William Jurek and countless beloved nieces and nephews. Ruby was born and raised in Moulton, Texas where she graduated from Moulton High School. Ruby always kept in touch with her high school friends and always was a regular attendee at the Moulton High School reunions. After meeting the love of her life, Larry, and marrying him in 1955, they moved to Houston where they began their family. She retired from Spring Branch ISD in the mid-80's after many years of service that she enjoyed while working with both students and faculty. Ruby was an avid gardener where she produced beautiful flowers and all types of vegetables, especially tomatoes. She enjoyed fishing, dancing, playing the slots in Louisiana, playing cards, dominoes and anything to do with family. She especially enjoyed a practical joke. She pranked her grandchildren often and laughed just as much when the joke was on her. Ruby was a 60+ year member of the Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Houston. A visitation for Ruby will be held Sunday, July 11, 2021 from 3:00-5:00 P.M. at the Smith Funeral Home in Moulton, Texas. The funeral service will also occur in the Smith Funeral Home on Monday, July 12, 2021 at 10:00 A.M. officiated by Rev. Jim Berggren.
