Thomas O. Martin Jr. of Flatonia passed away November 15, 2013. He was born in Norfolk, Virginia to the late Jeanette (Bagnell) and Thomas O. Martin Sr. During World War II, he served with the 222nd Infantry in the 42nd Rainbow Division, which fought in the European theater and liberated the Dachau concentration camp on April 29, 1945. Later, he was active with the Downtown Houston Rotary, the Flatonia Rotary, and the Methodist church. He is survived by his wife Shirley Martin of Flatonia; one son, Tom Martin & wife Kelly of LaPorte; two daughters, Andrea Martin of Houston, and Melodee Schaller & husband Ted of Beach City; three grandchildren, Logan Martin, Noah Schaller, and Teddy Schaller. He is preceded in death by his parents. Visitation will be at Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Flatonia November 22, 2013 starting at 3:00 pm. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am November 23, 2013 at Flatonia United Methodist Church in Flatonia with Pastor Phillip Hefner officiating. Burial will be at Colony Creek Cemetery.
