Vlasta Pavlas

January 11, 1926 — August 4, 2020

Vlasta (Barta) Pavlas of Moulton, Texas passed away, Tuesday, August 4, 2020. She was born in the community of Praha, Texas. The fifth daughter of the family of twelve, she was one of the last surviving siblings. Vlasta started her working career at an early age. World War II had begun and her brothers were called to service, so she became her father's right hand person on the farm. In addition to helping her father, she was also employed at the Piggly Wiggly in Flatonia. After the war she met her one and only, George Pavlas. They were married on June 30, 1947 and made a home in Flatonia, Texas. In 1952 she and George welcomed their first child, Jenny. They then moved to Point Comfort, Texas and in the next four years welcomed their next two daughters; Deralee and Nancy. In addition to being a mother and wife, she held a part time job in Point Comfort. In 1959 the family moved to Moulton and thus began her final career. She and George purchased a business which is known as Pavlas Tavern, where she worked for 58 years proudly serving the public and friends. A family oriented place; kids had crayons, color books, games and various toys for them to play with. They even had their own couch to sleep on when they got tired. She was a member of the Chamber of Commerce and won one of the first place trophies for showmanship in the Moulton Town & Country Jamboree Chili Cook-off, for "Stone Age Chili" featuring the Flintstones. She was also instrumental in putting together the time capsule that was opened in 2000. Her pride and joy besides the Tavern was her yard and flowers. A remarkable coincidence in the name of Pavlas Tavern, is her name, which is forever a part of it. ---- Pa(VLASTA)vern What a wonderful tribute to a lady who spent her life serving the public and truly enjoying it. We will miss her dearly. Vlasta was preceded in death by her parents; Frank R. Barta and Henrietta Sembera Barta; her husband; six brothers and four sisters. She is survived by her three daughters; Jenny (Stan) Keeling, Deralee (Michael) Pohler, Nancy (John) Grau; four grandchildren; Clinton Pohler, Wendy Blackerby, Ashley (Kristopher) Breithaupt, Kyle (Deborah) Grau; three great grandchildren; Ella Grace Blackerby, Lilly Briethaupt, Karter Briethaupt and one sister; Georgie White. Pallbearers will be Clinton Pohler, Michael Pohler, Stan Keeling, John Grau, Kyle Grau and Willie Pavlas with an Honorary Pallbearer; Bobby Anderson. Visitation will be Friday, August 7, 2020 from 4:00 - 8:00 pm at Smith Funeral Home in Moulton, Texas. A private graveside service will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Moulton, Texas. In lieu of usual remembrances, contributions may be made to the Moulton Fire Dept or donor's choice. Due to the Covid 19 Pandemic face masks and 6' distancing will be required for all services.
